Aurora and King Ferry

Wells College 9-hole Golf Course: Robert Trent Jones, who married a Wells College alumna, redesigned several holes in the 1960's. This course has plenty of trees, a few water hazards, and strategically placed sand bunkers to guard the greens. The fairways alternate between hilly and flat. There is an additional set of men's tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

Long Point Winery: Guests visiting Long Point Winery are treated to not only fine wines, but spectacular views of 62 acres of grape growing land overlooking Cayuga Lake. Specializing in dry red wines, the winery is noted for its award winning Merlot, Syrah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc. Harriet Tubman Home: Visit her house and learn up-close about the “Underground Railroad” which she utilized in rescuing family members and slaves out of the south. During the Civil War, Tubman rendered invaluable service to the Union Armyas a spy, a scout , and a hospital nurse. The Tubman home is currently being considered for inclusion in the National Park Services. Tours every hour, last tour begins at 3 pm.

 

Seward House: Home to William Henry Seward, governor, United States senator and secretary of state to Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. In 1867 Seward negotiated  the purchase of Alaska from Russia. Visitors enjoy a guided tour of 17 Victorian-appointed rooms, as well as two exhibit galleries featuring Alaskan and Civil War artifacts. Learn about the Seward women. Tours every hour, last tour begins at 3 pm.

 

 

Cayuga Museum of History and Art and The Case Research Lab Museum: See the birthplace of Talking Films. Cayuga Museum in housed in a beautiful 1836 Greek revival mansion, and provides a unique glimpse into a vanished way of life. Theodore Case turned his greenhouse in the backyard into a research lab and developed the first commercially successful system of recording sound on film in 1923. Tours 12 – 5 pm, admission is free.

 

Willard Memorial Chapel: Louis Comfort Tiffany experts and appraisers agree that the Willard Memorial Chapel is an extremely rare example of Tiffany’s work. The stained glass, hand craved furnishings, nine Mooresque-styled chandeliers, and extensive mosaic flooring are breath taking. Enjoy a free lunchtime Tiffany Concert in July and August on Wednesdays at noon. Free admission.

 

Finger Lakes Mall: Enjoy an afternoon of shopping at stores including Bass Pro Shop, Sears, Bath and Body, JC Penny’s and more.

 

Emerson Park: Enjoy an afternoon at the beach. Emerson Park and the south end of Auburn allow you to get your feet wet even swim in the Owasco Lake. Take a stroll along the pier. Enjoy a game of Frisbee golf.

Fillmore Glen State Park: Come visit Fillmore Glen State Park, an oasis of cool, dense woods crowding into a long, narrow gorge. Its hiking trails offer spectacular views, unique geological formations, including five waterfalls, and a botanically rich glen. Buttermilk Falls State Park: Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake.
